Empowering Girls in STEM: Insights for an Equitable Future

National Girls Program Roundtable Report

In late 2024, Actua convened experts, practitioners and voices from STEM fields to explore what it takes for girls and gender-diverse youth to thrive in STEM. Their input shaped this report, which offers key insights to guide the evolution of Actua’s National Girls Program (NGP) and support others working toward gender equity in STEM. Each year, NGP engages 25,000 girls directly, with another 225,000 reached through Actua’s broader programming.

Inside, you’ll find a candid look at the barriers still holding girls back, and reflections on four themes: building STEM identity, driving inclusive innovation, navigating risks in a digital and AI-powered world and supporting mental health.

These recommendations will guide Actua’s next steps for programs, advocacy and resources, toward a future where every girl can succeed in STEM.
