Research shows that girls are not aware of the variety of options available within the STEM field. According to a study by the National Academy of Engineering, when girls were asked if they wanted to be engineers, they were twice as likely as boys to say no. But when asked if they wanted to design a safe water system or use DNA to solve crimes – girls answered YES.

We also know that women remain vastly underrepresented in science and technology roles. And while there are many factors that contribute to the gender gap in STEM, our partnership with Olay aims to tackle two core issues: Representation and Communication.

We are proud to partner with Olay to empower young girls to explore a future in STEM and raise the voices of prominent women in science, technology, engineering and math-based careers to help young women and girls envision a future in STEM.

As part of the partnership, Olay donated $50,000 to our National Girls Program – a twenty-year program that engages 10,000 girls annually nationwide in STEM programming to help build skills and confidence girls need to fulfil critical roles as future leaders in STEM.

In addition to Olay’s initial commitment, Olay released a limited-edition STEM jar available exclusively at Walmart Canada (while supplies last). For every jar sold, Olay will donate an additional $15 to Actua (up to $25,000 CAD).

As a brand, Olay is scientifically-driven and its products are formulated by female STEM leaders – like myself – who are able to use their skillset towards developing the very skincare items. It’s an honour to be able to share my story and encourage the next generation of female scientists to consider a path like my own.
