A Message from the CEO: Happy International Women’s Day!
Today is International Women’s Day – a day to celebrate the invaluable cultural, political and socio-economic contributions and achievements of women.
As an organization that has worked for decades to pave the way for the next generation of women in STEM, this day holds a special place in our hearts. But today, on International Women’s Day, I want to take a pause from talking about how and why we must commit to attracting and retaining more girls and young women in STEM. Albeit important, I’ve done so and will continue to do so relentlessly year-round. I have also shared links to recent resources and discussions on the topic here:

Today, instead, I want to highlight and celebrate the extraordinary women behind Actua. Over the years, I have made it my mission to build the skills and confidence among women within Actua’s walls, just as much as we do among those outside our walls. Along the way, others have joined me in doing the same, and, as a result, I am proud to say that well over half of Actua’s Board of Directors and senior leadership team are women. Their leadership is in addition to the brilliant and hard-working women at the forefront of Actua’s network member institutions and programs.
Who are these women? They, like myself, imagine a world free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination. A world that is diverse, equitable and inclusive. And a world full of inclusive learning environments that advance gender equality in schools and the workplace. They are trailblazers and game-changers. They are fierce, and they are remarkable. And, best of all, they deliberately and unconsciously inspire future generations to be the same. They are Actua, and I couldn’t be more proud to have them leading this organization and network.

Lastly, I would be seriously remiss if I did not also take the opportunity to thank and applaud the strength, resiliency and selfless contributions of the women who have been at the front lines of our fight against COVID-19. From doctors and nurses to researchers and policymakers, their leadership has underscored the critical role women and girls play in STEM and has proven that the more women we have at the table, the stronger, more innovative and more prosperous we are as a country.
I am beyond grateful for all of these women. Happy International Women’s Day!
