Science Camp Inspires New Minds

Discover E delivered a science camp held for youth aged 10-17 at Northern Lakes College in Peace River, Alberta. Shell Canada, long-term supporter of Actua, sponsored the five day camp.

A Camp That Makes Science Fun

ESQ, Actua’s member located at the University of Waterloo, delivered one week of science camp for youth at Aamjwinnang First Nation during the week of July 19-23rd. The five-day camp was sponsored by the Suncor Energy Foundation.

Healthy Campers in Rankin

Article about Actua's Nunavut Health Careers Camp in Rankin Inlet, 2010. This is one of three pilot camp initiatives that was supported by the Nunavut Department of Health and Social Services and delivered by Actua in partnership with Nunavut Arctic College. The goal of the project was to promote health science careers to Inuit youth in Iqaluit, Cambridge Bay and Rankin Inlet, Nunavut.

Northern Science Camp Gets Funding Boost

On July 14, 2010 Health Minister, Leona Aglukkaq, announced $600,000 worth of funding on behalf of the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency (CanNor) to support Actua’s Science and Technology camps. This funding will allow 10,000 youth to attend camp.

Science Venture Wins 2009 Actua & GE Canada Award for Leadership and Innovation

Science Venture is the winner of the 2009 Actua & GE Canada Award for Leadership and Innovation! Selected by a panel of judges from GE Canada, the Science Venture team and its director, Melisa Yestrau, had a stellar year continuing to push for the highest levels of excellence in curriculum, outreach initiatives, and community partnerships.

Actua Wins Minister's Award

The Ontario Trillium Foundation has named Actua and its 11 Ontario members the winner of the Minister’s Award, the highest of seven prestigious 2009 Great Grants Awards.

The Minister's Award recognizes Actua as a charitable organization that exemplifies excellence, innovation and leadership in building healthy vibrant communities. It recognizes Actua as an organization that has had an exceptional positive impact in the 150 Ontario communities we reach each year. The 2009 Ontario Trillium Foundation Minister's Award was presented to Actua by Ontario Culture Minister Aileen Carroll at a ceremony in Toronto November 5.
