Actua’s National Mining Program was developed as a means to help youth understand the important role the mining industry plays as a cornerstone of Canada’s economy and in everyday life. By partnering with Mining Matters, and consulting with mining engineers, geologists, environmental engineers, northern archaeologists, Inuit carvers and more - we have developed dynamic earth sciences content that is incorporated into our STEM workshops, camps and clubs delivered nationwide. Our content exposes youth to the geology of Canada and its mineral resources and helps youth understand the important context of Canada’s mining industry.
We are particularly focused on delivering our mining program to Aboriginal youth in remote areas of the country, including Canada’s arctic region. Each year more than 30,000 youth are engaged through these activities and are empowered not only for their future role in one of the many dynamic career opportunities within the industry, but also to apply their critical thinking skills as informed citizens and future decision makers.
